Conservatives: what would be your response to this speech by British MP George Galloway? He seems to destroy your entire foreign policy position.

I noticed that on the sidebar you write about the "Palestinian" people. I wrote about this when I responded to your comment but I'll be clearer here: There is no such thing as a "Palestinian" people.

The Romans invented the terms Palestine after they expelled the Jews in 70 CE. They called the land by the name of Israel's Biblical enemies to undermine the Jewish connection to the Land. In the 6th century, the Arabs conquered the geographical land called Palestine and lived there as Arabs and not "Palestinians". Although there were two (and now three) Jewish sovereign states in Israel under the Davidic dynasty and the Hasmoneans, there was never an independent country known as "Palestine". Jerusalem was never the capital of an Arab land. The Pseudostinian people only came into existence after Judea, Samaria and Gaza were liberated in 1967. Before that, Palestine was associate with Jews since beofre WWII, the most popular game in Germany was 'Raus Juden' where players tried to drive the Jews back to Palestine. The newspaper was known as the Palestine Post and the symphony the Palestine Philaharmonics, to cite a few examples. Arab leaders orignally denied the existence of a Pseudostinian people.

"The Palestinian people [do] not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism. "
-Zuheir Muhsin, late Military Department head of the PLO and member of its Executive Council, March 31, 1977, interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw.

I can't wait to see you again on my site!

What would my response be? A liberal with a British accent is still a liberal..

What can I say ... he's RIGHT!! Of course he is controversial to a huge crowd of people because he dares to do one thing MOST are unable to due to (selective political and social) blindness: to call a spade a spade!

I want to congratulate you to your blog and your guts to stand up and state your opinion - we need more like you! Don't allow ANYONE to intimidate you ... you're doing the right thing and that is at the end all what counts and what it is all about!
About the Bar Kochba guy concerning Palestinians ... he has no idea what he's talking about!

May I invite you to my blog? Would be so nice to see you!

BTW ... if you don't mind I'll add blog URL on my sidebar!

BK is so sensitive to the past suffering of the Jewish people that he is completely blind to the suffering of anyone else. Typical conservative thought: “My group (race, religion, country, etc) is better then everyone else and we are the only ones that matter”, but I do think as part of the process of forming a mature opinion it is important to engage those who disagree with you and understand were they are coming from. It is vital to understand why people who disagree with you believe what they do. Hope to see you around soon.

Jungle Mom,
What I was looking for was a response to the ideas that he presented. If calling him a liberal is the best you do then I’m not inclined to take you very seriously.

He presented nothing new. The same old liberal garbage. Others have already rebutted and I don't really care if you take me seriously or not.

YA: The Jewish connection to Israel has nothing to do with Jewish suffering. It is based on historical (as I have pointed out) and religious right. I realize that Pseudostinians have suffered (though self-inflicted) and I would gladly pay for their ticket to the US, Canada, Europe or the other Arab states. Actually, the majority of the young ones have expressed a desire to seek a better life elsewhere. If Israel would take the money that it uses for unecessary and ridiculous measures like fences and security checks at every door (billions of dollars a year) and simply would use it to encourage Arab emigration, the problem would be over tomorrow.

Karin: I present you with facts and you answer 'he doesn't know what he is talking about'. Actually, I do but you so carelessly dismiss me because you couldn't care less about the Arabs, only that you would wish to see Israel and the Jewish people disappear.

The wound of the Palestinian people was not self inflicted. It was pressed upon them by the Zionist racists and terrorists.
It was not the Palestinians who built the apartheid wall or the settlements or who massacred peaceful activists or withheld basic humanitarian supplies. BK, how do you expect a people to respond to the occupation of their country? Show me one occupied people that have not embraced violent resistance to repression. It happened here in America during the Revolution and it continues to happen every day in Palestine. I do not endorse violence, but I will never condemn the aspirations of a repressed people yearning to breathe free. As Gandhi once said "I am not defending the Arab excesses. I wish they had chosen the way of non-violence in resisting what they rightly regarded as an unwarrantable encroachment upon their country. But according to the accepted canons of right and wrong, nothing can be said against the Arab resistance in the face of overwhelming odds."

The tried and true defense of a Zionist of accusing everyone critical of Israel of trying to wipe away the Jewish people will never hold up to scrutiny. How would you respond to the fanatically anti-Israeli Jews? The only people who someone has attempted to wipe away in the Holy Land are the Palestinian people. It is you who needs to be defending your support for a terrorist state not us who are critical of humanitarian abuses.
